ESG Research Analyst – Remote

JOB OVERVIEW

The ESG Analyst is an exciting position involving a combination of quantitative and qualitative research, with focus on Chinese and Japanese Steel and Aluminium industries and their respective downstream sectors. This position is part of a small dynamic regional team that requires flexibility in focus areas and collaborative work style. Depending on your expertise, experience, and interest, you will be researching areas covering policy analysis, corporate emissions, investor trends, regulatory frameworks, and climate risk management. ESG analysts are also encouraged to represent Transition Asia in 1:1 direct engagements, media, civil society workshops, and panel participation at conferences or webinars.

Position Summary & Duties

The responsibility:

  • Analyze and model emissions targets, emission boundaries, and pathways of East Asian corporations;
  • Conduct research on target corporations, investors and regulation to inform these stakeholders to how best reduce emissions;
  • Write on thematic issues (e.g. disclosure, ambition trends, quick takes on corporate ambition);
  • Represent research findings at meetings, conferences, hearings, and other public events, and;
  • Develop and maintain an overview of internal and external events and activities relevant to our program.

Skills & Experience

  • 2-5 years of experience in decarbonisation/environmental/energy research and analysis
  • Experience in international research and collaboration
  • Ability to professionally represent analytical data to expert stakeholders and media
  • Strong English writing skills
  • Fluency in either Chinese or Japanese, in addition to fluency in English is essential
  • Experience in coding is desired (Python, Julia, etc)
  • Highly organized and able to coordinate multiple different projects simultaneously
  • Ability and desire to work independently to drive work forward

Location

This is a remote position. The ability to work in an East Asian time zone is desirable. If you are based in Hong Kong, you may be required to work in the Hong Kong office three days per week.
