We are seeking a dynamic and visionary Executive Director to lead our growing organisation through its next phase of impact and innovation. The ED will be responsible for the strategic development of Transition Asia and oversee the implementation of its programmes and operational efficiencies. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED ensures that Transition Asia remains aligned with its mission and achieves its goals, including promoting and tracking corporate action plans in the region.
Transition Asia is a regional think tank dedicated to accelerating corporate climate transitions in materials and heavy industries. Through our independent research, we provide evidence-based, data-driven insights on climate risks and opportunities, supporting industries, investors, CSOs, and policymakers in making informed decisions for a climate-resilient future. Recognised for our impactful work, Transition Asia builds strong partnerships with these and other key stakeholders to drive meaningful action.
JOB OVERVIEW
In this role, you will lead and coordinate a multi-disciplinary, remote, and agile workforce while engaging with external stakeholders to build strategic partnerships that advance Transition Asia’s corporate decarbonisation goals. Fundraising and leadership skills are essential, along with a demonstrated commitment to and knowledge of climate issues. Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership and Vision
- Develop and drive the organisation’s strategic vision, ensuring programme alignment with its mission and goals.
- Lead long-term planning, setting priorities for organisational growth and impact.
- Foster innovation and identify opportunities to expand the organisation’s influence and reach.
Fundraising and Development
- Create and implement comprehensive fundraising strategies to ensure financial sustainability.
- Build and maintain relationships with funders, including pitching to donors, securing grants, and cultivating sponsorships based on shared vision.
Programme Development, Impact Measurement, and Learning
- Lead the implementation and scaling of impactful programmes that align with the organisation’s mission.
- Establish and oversee systems for Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) to measure programme outcomes and inform continuous improvement.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Enhance the organisation’s visibility and reputation by representing it in external forums and networks.
- Develop partnerships that advance the organisation’s goals and amplify its impact, including building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders such as CSOs, fellow think tanks and research institutes, industries, and policymakers where appropriate.
Team Leadership and Organisational Culture
- Lead and manage a multidisciplinary, remote workforce, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and accountability.
- Oversee human resource development, including recruitment, retention, and professional growth of staff.
Operations and Governance
- Collaborate with the Board of Directors to ensure strong governance and effective decision-making.
- Ensure operational excellence and promote operational resilience in terms of finance, administration, and compliance.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Minimum 10 years of experience in relevant sectors, at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
- Proven experience in strategic planning and execution at a senior leadership level.
- Demonstrated fundraising success, preferably in Transition Asia’s operational contexts.
- Proven track record in organisational leadership and innovation, preferably with successful experience guiding organisations through growth or change.
- Experience in evidence-based, data-driven advocacy is a bonus.
Key Skills
- Strong strategic planning and decision-making abilities.
- Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills with diverse stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, inspire, and manage teams effectively, experience leading a remote team a bonus.
- Proficiency in governance principles, compliance, and risk management as well as finance and HR management, preferably in a nonprofit context.
- Cultural competency in regions TA operations in, preferably with working experience in China.
